How To Make The Rest Of Your Life, The Best Of Your Life

Recently, we posted a quote to our Facebook page that garnered great interaction.  The simple yet powerful quote read, “I’m going to make the rest of my life, the best of my life.”  Many recent retirees may find themselves resonating with this quote or similar inspiring phrases.  During a transition period as significant as retirement, many will reflect upon practical ways to ensure that the years ahead are filled with happiness, satisfaction and unrivaled fulfillment.  After reflecting upon the above quote, we have compiled a list of simple, practical ways to truly make the rest of your life, the best of your life.

1.      Surround yourself with people you love.  This may seem like an obvious one, but it’s so important that we couldn’t overlook it!  If you’re recently retired and wish to make the most out of your newfound freedom, think about setting special time aside each day to spend with loved ones.  Whether it's as simple as taking a walk with your spouse, reading a book to a grandchild, or enjoying a cup of coffee with your son or daughter, you’ll be creating memories that last a lifetime.

2.      Pursue your passions.  Maybe there’s a job, activity or hobby that you’ve always been passionate about, but never had the time or opportunity to pursue.  Maybe it’s that team you’ve always wanted to coach, or that class you’ve always wanted to take, or that place you’ve always wanted to visit.  If you just recently entered retirement, maybe now is the time to finally pursue that dream.

3.      Keep a gratitude journal.  This is a very practical way to reflect upon the many blessings that are in your life.  Consider taking a minute each day to write one thing that you’re thankful for and why, and at the end of each week, take some time to reflect upon what you have written.  This is a simple way to discover a new appreciation for the people and opportunities that are already in your life.

4.      Be present and disconnect.  In this day and age, disconnecting can be seemingly impossible.  With your smart phone’s ability to not only call and text, but also host your email, internet and social media sites, the world is undeniably at your fingertips.  While the digital age has brought us countless number of benefits, it has not come without its drawbacks; one being that it has become more and more difficult to be present and enjoy the moment.  The next time you spend time with your spouse, child or grandchild, consider leaving your phone at home or putting it in a drawer on silent.  Maybe you’ll find that by silencing the distractions, you’re able to enjoy the moment just a little bit more.

We hope that you find exactly what you need to make the rest of your life, the best of your life.
